The Liberal Candidate for Blue Mountains, Michael Paag, today called on the Labor State Government to remove unflued gas heaters from
“I am deeply concerned about the health risk posed by unflued gas heaters, they should be banned from all schools in NSW,” said Mr Paag.
“Parents are concerned about the risk of these heaters on their children’s health.
“Unflued gas heaters can cause respiratory problems such as Asthma, as well as drowsiness.
“In a Parliamentary report into air pollution in November last year, both Labor and Liberal members recommended the sale of unflued heaters be banned.
“Despite the outcomes of this report the Labor State Government continues to let our children sit in classrooms heated by unflued gas appliances, with the full knowledge of the potential health risks.
“Opening windows and installing ventilation fans is not the answer.
“It is unacceptable that after twelve years, Labor still can’t provide our children with safe heating at school.
“If Phil Koperberg is serious about representing the concerns of Blackheath parents then he would act NOW.
“Labor says it is going to spend $2 billion to upgrade our public schools but it can find any money to fix the heaters at Blackheath Public, a school which we would all agree is located in a cold climate.
