Michael and his wife Bindi live in Blackheath. He commutes each day by train to work in Sydney. Michael’s parents live in Mt Victoria with relatives living in Springwood, Woodford and Blackheath. Bindi has relatives living in Valley Heights, Springwood and Katoomba. At 36 Michael believes “we need someone who understands the difficulties faced by the elderly and the concerns of those approaching retirement when it comes to health care and access to state government services. At the same time we need a younger person who understands the pressures on families and who can empathise with young people as they try to establish their place in our community”. Michael is an accountant with over 14 years experience working with small, medium and large businesses on taxation, superannuation and business advisory. He understands the importance of sound financial management As a Director of the Blue Mountains and Riverlands Community Credit Union Michael has played a key role in strengthening the Credit Union’s position as a credible alternative to the major banks. Michael is a member of the Blue Mountains Commuter and Transport Users Association and the Katoomba Chamber of Commerce and Community; he is also the Treasurer of the Blackheath and Districts Chamber of Commerce. As a concerned commuter Michael has led a strong campaign against the State Government’s track record on Blue Mountains train services and their refusal to install traffic lights at the Blackheath Pedestrian Crossing. Michael’s wife Bindi was involved in the Glenbrook train disaster and his father was on a Blue Mountains train that caught fire at Linden in 2000. |
